Well, someone has thrashed an arcade hall. That’s what it looks like for the one trying to analyse the cover artwork of Spanish quintet Lethal Vice’s debut album Thrash Converters. Funny looking artwork with a classic thrash metal-looking logotype. Guess that is their september eleven terror thing, a broken arcade hall. Funny thing is though that these guys, despite releasing their debut album, have been around for quite a while. They were apparently formed way back in 2005, they released a demo in 2008, it would appear that they take their time. And now we are looking at their debut.

It is classical thrash metal, like the early Bay Area stuff. I think all who know thrash metal can imagine how that sound. Even the production is going in that direction. I would say that it is a bit of a budget production, one that shows energy and a band enjoying their stuff which shines through the songs. They do put some arcade game sounds throughout the album, maybe to add some depth or something. There are also some other things breaking off what otherwise would be fairly one dimensional considering that the playing time is around 50 minutes on ten tracks.

I would describe this as a band that pays tribute to the old school thrash metal, no real new thinking and no fresh thinking at all. They do it okay and it reminds a lot of that old school kind of music. I like it a bit, especially the arcade stuff that starts and ends the album, the ending is the real highlight with a ”game over” ending the album in the most brilliant fashion. The album as a whole lacks novelty and it does not quite attract me to play it over and over. I suppose however, that the fans of the old-school Bay Area type thrash metal will enjoy it a fair bit even though I more think they seem like a tribute band to the classics than a band who does their own thing.

Decently enjoyable album but it lacks the edge and it lacks novelty. Seems geared towards the thrash nostalgic rather than someone looking for a new and exciting musical fix. Approved - no more, no less.

HHHHHHH
