When browsing the information I can find when unpacking I can clearly deduct that the logo of this band looks very good, how that should help me with the review is something I am not yet clear on, but it looks good nonetheless. A very good looking logo and cover can of course be a positive first impression and also reading the tracklist helps me take a positive side before listening but still it brings me no closer to what the album sounds like even though I already suspect that it is something in the power metal area.
To find out more than I already had I was forced to remove the CD from its little slip and slide it into my computer from the company called ***** and converted the tracks into protected AAC-files in order to play them on my big screened white thing called an ****. I cannot name the company as they do not pay me any money to do so. Thing is that when I then play the files I realise that this is music in the so-called power metal genre which of course was what I was expecting from the beginning. For you who don’t know anything about what that genre sound like, then I can explain it to you. It sounds like melodic metal with much emphasis on melodies and speed, it also has some choirs and some keyboard parts that are rather prominent.
Well, that is as much and as good as I can describe it in words. And an image says more than a thousand words but that is not it, or is it?
Well, I like this record, it brought a positive opinion from the get go with the good looking cover and logo. Then of course an opening track like The Calling can’t make that thing any worse and the fact is that I could go on pointing out the good tracks title by title but that would be too much work in writing so instead I only mention the ones that really stand out. Tracks like Reason Why We Were Born which has a powerful and strong melody. Then of course we have the title track which is really good and makes me come back to this record time after time.
The production is also a helper for a positive opinion for this record, it is clean and nice and brings forward the strengths of this band. The vocals are also very strong and suits the mood of the music very well.
I cannot really fault anything about this record no matter how critically I view it. Of course if I nitpick I could always see something to complain about but the record is not too long which of course is good, it has a consequent sound that hold a high quality all the way through the record. With some high notes and no real low points which of course makes this a record well worth investing a few dollars, or euros or whatever currency you use where you live, in as I promise you it will be good value.
So with my deductive abilities in the same vain as Sherlock Holmes I can deduct that this is not only a record which have a cover that looks good, it also has the insides to back it up. No matter how you look at it and how you wish to tear it down, these German guys make their first album count. Still, saying that these guys are newcomers would be too much ‘cause they have all been around for years, and that is what we can hear when we relax and take the music of Sanction-X in.
Also take a look at the video below, it is the title track.
