Celtic stuff from a Brazilian band, how about that? The Tribes of Witching Souls is the effort by these trio that I am looking at, an album that was first released in 2019 and now in 2020 it gets an international release. It looks pretty good. It contains seven tracks and plays for little over 31 minutes, some would call it an EP, but I think that passing the thirty-minute mark makes it a definite album. But is it a good album that we get from this trio that also have enlisted the help of many guests?

With whistles, pipes, bagpipes and other Celtic styled instruments they make a folkish metal album with strong Celtic tones and atmospheres of myth and trolls. They have a strong production, good sound, pretty fresh sound, although stylewise it is quite typical of the Celtic folk metal styles. I think that it is great that they keep the playing time short, I don’t think the variation is strong enough to keep one listening for a very long time. I especially like the female guest vocals, but the guys singing are pretty good as well – a solid production.

Eu gosto disso, to speak the band’s language, but it might be: Is maith liom é -  meaning that I like this album. The tracks are good all the way through, I think that the ending track Tan Pinga ra Tan that ends the album in a great way. But I miss a really strong hit song, something that draws me to the album, it is enjoyable but not memorable. Is it maybe to predictable? Perhaps it is, I think most of the album is a little bit generic, but fans of the genre might find this album most agreeable.

So, it isn’t a standout album, but as a half hour entertainment it is pretty strong and enjoyable. But after that half hour, maybe two of those, it becomes less exciting and interesting. Fans of the Celtic metal genre should have a look at this one, it is quite enjoyable.
