With Eyes Wide Open fits quite well into the alternative rock genre if you want to fit it into some kind of box. You could compare them with bands like Alter Bridge but with more edge and metal touches, I think they sound rather fresh. Compared with their earlier albums they have an edgier sound, more power and more energy with depth and lots of energy. I think that the singer is good and fits perfectly into the soundscape the band paints, and they keep it short enough not to feel too long and the variation helps with that as well. I think that it isn’t an exaggeration to describe it as the band’s strongest production to date.
It is also their best album to date, a collection of really strong songs and no weaker one. It is a rather enjoyable album; it is worth checking out for anyone who wants a really good classic and simple rock album. It is like they have finally found their voice and a way to really express themselves, sure you can argue about originality as you can almost always do when looking at music but this album is fresh enough to give a sense of novelty and in difference to much music I review these days it doesn’t sound like just another album of the same songs with different lyrics – that is a big plus nowadays.
A Perfect Day finally comes close to make the day perfect, or at least more perfect than many days. With Eyes Wide Open shows that this band doesn’t always make lacklustre stuff, they have taken a massive leap forwards in terms of creativity and musical quality. This is a really enjoyable album; I think you will not regret it if you get it – poor rhyme to finish this review with the conclusion that I have just written something about a pretty great album.
