Synthesizer music, electronic music, progressive rock, those are probably the genre labels you can put on the albums of this release. It is a diverse release, Hans Lundin doesn’t stay in one place to do the same stuff over and over so we get a good spread of musical styles over six disks. The first two are more electronic and instrumental; the third is a bit more diverse and bears some resemblance with later Kaipa stuff in some material. The fourth is a good dancey album that is hard not to be swept along with, strong electronic album. The fifth is more akin to the first two as they are with material made for the first two albums but not included on them and the final one are of Kaipa demos and most rock music of the release and also the one with most vocals – good vocals.
I think the sound is very good, it doesn’t sound dated or anything like that – I guess we have to say that the remastering done in 2018 is very good, really impressive. It is not a release you play through all six disks in one go, you listen to and enjoy them one at a time and separate from one another. All disks are good but I think the last one with Kaipa demos and more progressive rock is the one I like the best, it has some really good songs. The fourth album isn’t too bad either; I really like the electronic stuff and how Lundin experiments while still keeping it easily accessible. Quite an enjoyable release overall I think, perhaps a bit long and too diverse to write up a good review about but if you like Lundin’s work with Kaipa and that sort of thing I am quite sure that you will like this release as well.
Difficult to come up with a short and simple conclusion or a favourite track, anything like that. It is a really strong release; a box of treasures is what we are getting with this box. And for the Kaipa fan or anyone who likes their music a bit more interesting and creative it is probably well worth the money, about 40 euros with shipment. A very fine release with good songs and lots of variation, it is worth checking out.
