The guys of Japanese quartet Solitude are like the rest of us on this planet in most regard, they live beneath the sky. Wintery and grey skies today, and even though they may be reaching for the sky as they state in the third track of this old new album. It was originally released in 2015 but their Japanese label didn’t send us that so we are dealing with this American release instead. The second album by these guys who have one album and an EP released before this, so lets have a look at what these guys have to offer.

It would appear that these guys are very inspired by British bands of the early eighties, those that usually fit in the description of NWOBHM. Straight ahead heavy metal with lots of power and raspy vocals, sounds like something from the eighties but with a fresher sound – a good sound. Don’t like the vocals and I don’t think anyone beneath the grey winter skies will think of this as anywhere near original. But it is short and to the point, that is always appreciated.

Not overly varied but it works and the album the album is quite good. I like that catchy and raw approach even though it may not offer anything we haven’t already heard. The songs are strong, but it is also an album I grow tired of rather quickly as it offers nothing new and nothing really exciting. But it works for those days when you are not looking for that interesting and fresh band, when you just want to listen to something rather heavy.

Solitudes music is for those of you who like heavy metal and who got some money for Christmas, if you didn’t get any money for Christmas I would imagine that there are many albums out there that would be a better investment.
