Midnight Eternal is a female fronted melodic metal band from The USA, most likely they are very inspired by several well-know European bands like for instance Nightwish. They have released a highly acclaimed demo in the past, something that has led them to share stage with well-known bands like Kamelot, Sonata Arctica, Xandria, Etc. But sharing stages and everything is one thing; it doesn’t really matter for this album though. Cool cover art and everything; so now let us move on to what is found inside that cover.

Have you heard a band called Operatika, this sounds more or less as a near identical copy of that band. It is melodic metal with female vocals, some symphonic elements and excellent sound. Good variation, although fairly typical of the genre and that is something that can be said about the album in general, it is fairly typical of the genre. Great vocals that bring life to the songs, the tracks number a dozen and it plays for about fifty minutes – I think it is interesting enough to remain interesting for the entire playing time. I would describe this as a very solid production, and it is a great sounding album for a debut.

It is a very good album overall, no real weaknesses and several strong points. The songs are very good overall, none of them stand out as a weaker song and fans of the genre will most likely find this album very appealing. Several of the songs could probably be described as hit songs as well, but I still have a hard time warming up to this album. It is not that it is poor, it is just that as a critic it is very difficult to overlook the fact that I think every song on this albums sounds like another song I have heard from another band before and it is more déjà vu than aha – that is not really something that really make me that interested.

The Lantern is my favourite song on the album, it is a great song where I really like the vocals – the vocals are the highlight of the album while the songs are somewhat generic. A good album that don’t really stand out from the genre in general, but fans of the genre will probably find it very appealing and not really care about this similitude. Judging by this debut I would say that this band has great potential, they just need to emulate less and find their own voice a little more.
