I picked up some driftwood from the lake (first pickaxing a hole in the ice of course) and it happened to carry a CD with an EP from a Swedish band called The Driftwood Sign. A package where the CD is always falling out, maybe it wants to be played. The cover is pretty nice, a minimalistic painting of a man with a guitar dreaming about playing at the big arena in the distance, cool cover artwork. It looks interesting this five track EP and with names like Tue Madsen and Beau Hill on the cover art it looks even more interesting.

Classic hardrock in the vain of bands like Alter Bridge and their peers but without sounding like a blatant copy of those bands, I think they have given us their own take on a genre that is getting more and more watered out. The production is very good and I like the sound and the vocalist has a great rocking voice that suits this band very well. The playing time is short as it is an EP and the five tracks plays for just short of 25 minutes, 25 minutes with good variation and better coherency than many EPs I have heard.

This is a very good EP, I really like it and have enjoyed it quite a bit. And I do enjoy that they have avoided taking that whole nostalgic road and copied stuff from the bands that came before them in the genre. Not that the fans of nostalgia will be disappointed because there are traces of the past heroes here as well but they have done it in a way that you think of the name The Driftwood Sign rather than of which riff or song they have stolen to make the songs.

The best songs are the opener Leech and the ending Disorder which I enjoy very much, not that they stand out overly much compared with the other three songs which are all very good. And it is an EP to really enjoy, I have enjoyed it quite a bit and a very good thing is that it is great as car music, especially for me considering that it is about as long as my usual travel time. Highly recommended for those who like the genre, I would however really like an album with this part of it. Perhaps if you buy enough of the EP that album will happen, so remember to pick up a few copies so that we will see an album in a little while.
