Swedish quintet Bulletrain are starting to talk, finally you might said as their store begun some time ago. It was way back in 2006 and they released an EP not too long after that and they seemed to be on the road to success recording a single with Chris Laney producing, something that caught the eye of label boss Georg Siegl who offered them a contract. But the singer left and things took a different direction but after finding a new singer and some other members they finally took to recording the debut album which is now being released on the same label that offered them the chance some years ago. I guess we can conclude that the wait has been quite long for those who heard the band’s first and second EP way back in 2007 and 2009. Has it been worth the wait?

For those waiting to hear energetic and uptempo melodic rock it could have been worth the wait. It builds on catchy choruses and memorable melodies. Good vocalist, good drive and energy, catchy and a relatively wide variation over a dozen tracks taking 47 minutes to play through. The regular variety of tracks are there, the ballad and the slower tracks are all accounted for and it is difficult to call this innovative. At the same time they have found something fresh meaning that it at least doesn’t sound like everything else, at least a slight breath of fresh air which is always a positive. The sound is also very good and I am left to conclude that it is a good production.

I think most will think that it was worth the wait as this is a very good album. I like the drive, the variation, the vocals, the songs and most everything about this album. There is not really anything to complain about, they do what they do really well. Impressive debut one have to say and one also have to recommend it to any fan of the melodic rock genre. This is a little bit heavier than your everyday AOR/Sleaze/Melodic rock or Hardrock album which is also good. I would say that considering the cover art this is a very positive surprise, and I have enjoyed listening to this album quite a lot.

All the songs are high quality on this album but to me there is a trio that stands out a little bit more. The best one has to be From the Bottom of My Heart, I mean who can resist: ”I hate you from the bottom of my heart”? I can’t. Then I like the obligatory ballad Even With My Eyes Closes which is a very good song, not particularly unique but these kinds of songs almost always works. Then we have Phantom Pain which is a great uptempo track with an enjoyable catchy chorus. But then we should of course not forget the rest of the tracks on the album, it is a great album that I can recommend to any fan of the genre.
