It is not the easiest thing to describe this band’s debut EP, not if you just want to use the regular genre terms at least. I think you can say that it is predominantly stoner rock, but also some industrial and also a bit of thrash metal, some aggressive stuff, some good melodies and a heavy groove. I think the easiest way to say it is that it is no-nonsense rock music that goes straight to the point without taking any detours. The five tracks are however quite varied and often rather heavy, well produced I think it is as the sound works really well for the music they are performing. On first glimpse it is actually not that easy to spot that it is a debut, on second it becomes easier.
Yes, it is definitely good this EP. It has energy, it doesn’t mess about but does what it is supposed to, rock! It does what it does quite well. But as always there are some slight problems in my notebook, one of which is that it is a tad incoherent. Remember how I threw out lots of descriptions, genres and stuff, they don’t always conform these elements into working units. As in songs. I think they need to look more at the whole picture when it comes to the songs, the EPs/albums as a whole is less of a problem with this variation but at least two of the songs just don’t come together. They have what is required to be really good, they just don’t get it all together with this, their first release. It is an EP that shows lots of promise though.
I think after hearing this EP I am more looking forward to seeing what the band has to offer in the future rather than enjoying this EP. It is not that the EP is poor, it is just not what it could have been. What it should have been, it is slightly lacking but is still good entertainment. I think the opening track and the fourth one, Cardinal Sins and Monolith are really sharp tracks that I really enjoy. The other tracks, less so but still decent on most part but a bit incoherent as I stated before. All in all I think we can conclude that Six in Line and their head gasket sure can be something to take a closer look at, it is rather good.
