Some bands deal with recycling while others make new music. Astrolites confess themselves to the former, the make music that might well feel very much at home in the 1950s. Hi-Speed Rockabilly is what the label states that they play. Well, maybe it is that, I am not that much at home in the particular genre, but I will do my best to review it from what I think of it.

As I have already hinted, the music can almost be confused with rockabilly music from the 50s with its big acoustic bass and that kind of sound. There is a definite giveaway though and that is the production which of course is much cleaner and better than the one from the 50s. Other than production there cannot be said to be much other difference between Astrolites and music of the 50s.

I must confess I am not really fond of any music in the genre at all, it is mainly boring and sounds a bit dull. I think instrumentally Astrolites are decent, their music sounds interesting as long as we don’t hear the singer as it is all ruined when he starts singing. To be fair, he is okay in the Johnny Cash cover Ring of Fire which is a really good song and it is the best thing of the record, the rest is not that interesting unfortunately.

Sure, it is not bad the music in this album but for me it is quite boring and the songs sound old and uninteresting. Rock music was clearly not better in the past so why does some try to make the same music as in the past? Guess they think it wasn’t enough music made back then or something like that.

I think that Astrolites is rather good at what they do, but what they do does not interest me in the slightest so in the end all I can do is say that it is not bad but at the same time not for me and then delete all the files from this album from my computer and put the disc among all the other promo discs and then never again listen to this album.
