It is black metal in terms of style, melodic with synths and such things. I read about stellar song writing etc. I listen though the album many times and hear a typical black metal roar on the vocal side, it is all familiar grips and nothing that gives me a sense of novelty. From the beginning it seemed fresher but after hearing more and more times that sensation vanishes quickly and it feels more like another one of the black metal albums that comes out. I also think the variation is slightly small, and that the playing time of the album is too long.
Not a poor album in any sense of the way, but I think it is quite ordinary. I listen but don’t really listen when I play this album. I have it in the headphones and it plays but my mind hears something else and when it ends no song has made an impression and playing it over and over makes no difference. It is one of those albums that doesn’t quite cut it for me, a shrug of the shoulders, meh, or whatever you want to use to describe the feeling of not really caring for the album.
Do I even see it as a promising debut? Not really. And it doesn’t make me curious about the other project Rise to the Sky either, it is almost as I can sense how the life drifts away and As Life Drifts Away so quickly anyway I don’t really see the point accelerating that process by spending time listening to generic albums.
