Stellar Void comes from the void of the Earth, one of the worst nations on our pale blue dot. They are of the murderous Russian people, and had I known beforehand where these guys were from I probably never would have bothered with this album considering that the wise thing to do is to freeze the Russians from the everything, let them starve, lose income, and whatever else they like. There is probably some that say that we should separate the people from the corrupt leaders or whatever, but it is the people who give the leaders power whether it is in a democracy or a dictatorship. Still, I did play this album before I knew that the duo where part of the invasion of a neighbouring country, and I did form my opinion of it before that as well. The only thing that changes is that I recommend you not to buy it.

Chrysalis is the debut EP of these guys, it is four tracks of symphonic extreme metal that plays for about 19 minutes. It is good that it is short because the variation isn’t much, it is relatively static. The production is majestic and powerful, the vocals are varied between a little operatic female vocals and growls. The female voice is great while the growling is quite average, and the style isn’t particularly novel either. They thread on established and safe paths, and they do it well as it is a good EP.

There are four solid or good songs that is fairly enjoyable to listen to, and it is obvious that there is a strong potential here. In some ways it is an album that stands out while it isn’t standing out much in other ways, and overall it is probably on the upper average range. Fans of the extreme symphonic metal styles will probably find the album quite appealing, and I doubt many will be overly negative towards it – unless they think about the origin of the band because that is very negative. If you want the album I recommend stealing it through bittorrent or something like that, or if you can listen from other sources that doesn’t generate income for the band as no Russian deserves money from us.

In the end I would say that Chrysalis is a fine EP, it may not be anything special but is still a nice EP to listen to.
