I read that Deep Drive are compared with bands like Alter Bridge, Soundgarden, and many others like that. You can almost guess that from looking at the cover of the Danes debut album Human, it sort of looks that way. The trio release the album on their own accord, not on a label. I am usually a bit doubtful towards bands that do that, as a label can be some stamp of quality, albeit that is something that is less so now than it was some years ago. And as you all know awful stuff is released on labels and amazing stuff is self-released as well, so there are no general rules to that. The album called Human contains fifty minutes of music split on twelve tracks, but are these any good tracks?

Alt-rock is one way of describing it, I think the comparisons with the likes of Alter Bridge, Soundgarden, and bands like them are quite fitting. Human sounds quite American, heavy, powerful, and with strong vocals. The songs are quite catchy and accessible, the production is good, and the album has a nice fluency to it. It doesn’t stand out much when it comes to the style, but it sounds fresh enough not to be dismissed immediately, and with catchy and accessible songs it should work quite well for many. The long playing time is somewhat detrimental, I think they could have taken away a pair of the songs to give the album a more direct feel.

Human is a good solid album with good songs, great vocals, and mature songwriting. A bit careful songwriting though, I would have liked something a bit braver. But it is a debut so that might come later, and I find this album enjoyable enough to be worthy a try. Tracks like Boy and Black Hole works well for me, some other tracks are more forgettable, and the overall impression is that the album is around the average mark, maybe slightly over, but it doesn’t stand out.

Not the most memorable, but those who like the other bands mentioned in this review text or as similar should have a closer look at Human as there is a good chance you will like it. I will probably not play Human again, but I think Deep Drive shows good promise and I will be curious about what they can achieve further into their music career.
