Stoner is probably the all-encompassing description of the style we are presented on this album, but they also borrow from many other subgenres of the rock and metal world. There is some blues rock some hardcore and many other things, the press material claims that the band took a musical journey into the world of rock and its subgenres. I am not so sure that it took the journey the press material states, I would rather say that flirting with some subgenres has made the album incoherent. There is a good bit of variation but no real depth and while the sound is pretty good, I would still think that the production is average at best.
The same is true about the album, it is average. Sure, there are some really good things there but the overall sense is that it doesn’t really get anywhere, and is both incoherent and lacks emotional resonance. That lack of emotion is probably the weakest part of this album, but also that it misses really strong hit songs. There is nothing memorable about this album and I am quite sure that it is an album that I will forget very soon after I have put the ending punctuation to this review.
Usually it is pretty simple to figure out who could possible like an album, like a target audience, but with this album it is hard to see that there is any distinct group like that. Sure, some will like it but I think that it will generally be discarded by those who hear it as it doesn’t really press any buttons for anyone. There are upsides and the band has potential but they do not deliver anything even close to that potential.HHHHHHH
