The band that has taken the name Coffeinne has taken a rather mysterious name, it is not easy to figure out what it means. It is probably easier to figure out that they have done two albums now that the second album Requiem is released. The first album Circle of Time was released in 2016. This new album has a good-looking artwork and ten tracks, ten tracks that start by venturing out on Frozen Seas and ends with a Requiem after some crashing and burning amongst other things.

It is melodic power metal of the modern kind, fresh sound, good production, good vocals, very catchy and very strong melodies – that is how I would quickly describe this album. Then I might add that there is decent variation over the ten tracks and that the album has good depth that gives it longevity, and the playing time is sensible as well. Requiem is an album that is easy to like as the songs are easily accessible to begin with and thanks to good depth it can be played many times and still feel relevant and fresh.

I like this album; the songs are good all the way through the album. I don’t see any major weaknesses, the album is strong from the frozen beginning to the requiem that ends it all, Timo Tolkki makes a guest appearance on the ending title track. And that title track is one of the highlights of the album, that along with the opening track Frozen Seas are memorable and strong hit songs that brightens up an already bright and great album.

If you like power metal it would be really stupid not to check out this album, but I also think it has wider appeal than that. One of those great albums to check out if you want something great to listen to while you work at home or hide in quarantine in these pandemic times. Check it out!
