On the subject of the artwork, it is quite telling of what the album has to offer. Fuzzy guitars and retro rock on an album akin to be played very loud, it can be described as garage- or retro rock. Simplistically built with catchy songs, and pretty decent variation. Flavia sings with strong energy and conviction, she brings a lot of life to the songs of this album. It is also a rather short album that goes straight to the point; the only fuzz is in the guitars the songs are straightforward enough to take to easily. And these guys know how to put together a hit song, they have several songs with good hit potential on this album – and it is short enough not to be too long although I recommend against playing it over and over as there is a distinct risk of a Flavia overdose.
Catchy and enjoyable, I think that this is a good album overall. It has been good listening to it, but it can be described as a fresh our unique album but it is very catchy. It is easy to like. The best tracks are the opening pair that I find good and catchy and then the calmer song Strawberry Boy that probably is my favourite track on this album. And while those are the highlights, the ending pair of tracks has to be the least impressive on the album and I could have done without them. In the end I think that it is an album that rocks quite a lot, uncompromising and entertaining enough to be enjoyable. It is definitely checking out for those who like retro- or garage rock.
Kickass garage rock for the enthusiast of that genre; The Courettes offer us an entertaining and simple view on the world of music. A bit of retro and plenty of joy and energy, it can definitely be an album worth looking closer at. We Are the Courettes is a likeable album, lets end with that simple statement.
