Female fronted melodic metal is the way to describe what this band has to offer, metal with touches of more classic styled things. Elina’s mother can be heard on violin on this album, and I think they can be compared with bands like Xandria, previous mentioned Leaves’ Eyes and more bands like that. They are hardly what we call original and neither can the album Aeon be described as particularly varied, the 45 minute playing time feels quite long – that is usually not the case with albums in this genre. Perhaps this is down to the lack of depth, or lack of imagination and fresh ideas – the sense of having heard it before is usually not the best feeling when listening to a new album.
This album leaves off with the feeling that it could, and perhaps should, have been better. It is well-produced, it sounds good and the vocals are great but the album doesn’t grab me – it fails to really catch my attention, perhaps it sound too much like most other things in this genre. I think that the songs are pretty good and but lack depth and I also think they lack passion and identity. Still, it isn’t a bad album and I think that no one will dislike the album as it is quite good and perhaps it may even be an album that appeals to fans of this kind of music.
The album can be said to be missing a hit song, along with a bit of passion and identity. But for fans of the female fronted melodic metal it might be an album worth checking out. Angel Nation makes an okay album with pretty good songs but they do not really stand out and they to not really catch my full attention. It is an album that won’t be disliked, but the problem is that I don’t think too many will be very impressed either.
