Stonehymn is the same kind of epic style power/melodic metal as we have heard from them before. Strong production with songs that have this feel of epicness, mostly the same tempo songs that are not very varied and with a playing time of near fifty minutes you get the feel that the album is very much on the long side. I also think that the vocals are rather dull, and lack a sense of expression. But overall I think that they, just like their earlier albums, have put together a rather strong production.
Overall I think that this is a good album, it has good songs, strong melodies and a nice epic feel. It is an album for the fans of this genre, and for the ones who have already fallen for the music of these guys. It is an album that doesn’t offer much when it comes to fresh thinking and new ideas, they thread well travelled paths towards more toney hymns. My feeling towards it as it has been for their previous albums, they do what they do well, they offer some good epic melodic metal music that is easy to like but not as easy to remember.
It is a good but not very memorable album. I would state that Wind Rose keeps travelling the same paths and repeating themselves, over and over. This is really the third time that they offer something that sounds very similar to the first album – to remain interesting as a band you have to evolve and while they promised much in 2012 I would say that they have made themselves a lot less exciting five years later. Wind Rose really have to evolve in order to make themselves more relevant and more interesting, this is their third well made but also quite generic album.
