Could it be that Roadkill BBQ is a tasteful treat from the band that calls themselves Nitrogods, a German trio who probably find inspiration in Motörhead and Status Quo. It even comes in an exclusive version that has a tribute to Lemmy disk and some other nice things for the collector who enjoys the classical style of rock music, the one that is simple and straight to the point. Straight to the point for about fifty minutes is what we are getting, enjoyable fifty minutes.

A crossbreed between Motörhead and Status Quo is a good description of how Nitrogods sound, and what to expect when listening to the trio’s third album. It isn’t an album that offers surprises or fresh ideas; they look to the past rather than the future. It is simple and straightforward with great energy and quite edgy sound, perhaps not that much in terms of variation and a raspy voice not far from that we heard from the late great Lemmy. Perhaps the album is a bit on the long side but thanks to good energy it will keep most people listening.

It is a rather good album, it has good and entertaining songs and it certainly presses all the right buttons for the bearded old rock fan who fear the modern and the changing times. But I am sure that many will find this album quite enjoyable and while I have my reservation I too think it is enjoyable. Sure you could argue that it doesn’t really break new ground and that it isn’t really a new fresh release in the manner that it offers us something that actually feels new and exciting. Nevertheless, it is simple and it is good, a while of simplistic musical entertainment. They keep it simple but they also play it safe, and only do the tried and tested without daring to journey a little outside the frame.

In the end I find that I like this album as a while of musical entertainment, the title track is probably the most memorable in an album that isn’t all that memorable. It is a while of good musical entertainment that probably never will go down in history as one of the greatest albums of 2017. I think that Nitrogods delivers a good solid album, a good choice for the one who is missing Motörhead.
