Less Than Jake sounds the alarm on their new EP, a seven-track EP with the characteristic Less Than Jake-sound. That means classic punk rock with added flair of trombone and saxophone, relatively fresh but this EP is still a rather predictable one. However, the songs are easily-accessible and catchy, they all have a decent hit-potential and I would be very surprised if the band’s fans weren’t very impressed with this.

Well-produced modern punk rock with the additions of horns, that makes for strong melodies and strong choruses. Less Than Jake produce music that is easy to take to and easy to like, the seven tracks also offer a decent amount of variation. But for all those fresh and good things they offer, the EP is still rather predictable and for anyone not familiar with LTJ it would take no more than one or two tracks to be able to predict the rest of the EP – that is a bit of a weak point I would think.

I think that perhaps they should have sounded the alarm, worked a bit harder to make the songs less predictable. This EP does not quite have the longevity and it is not really that captivating and as I now listen through it for the second time while writing this review I find that I just want to be done with it and not hear it anymore. It is not really an EP that stands for repeat listening, but I think it is still a good EP and fans of the band will certainly not be disappointed.

I would save my limited music money for something more interesting, something more standoutish, captivating and exciting. I would however not be disappointed had I bought this one as it is pretty good and it works. In the end I think that Less Than Jake offers us a good EP with songs that are listenable and good, it could be worth checking out.
