From Rome, Italy hails the band called Game Zero. They have recently released their debut album called Rise, an album that in many ways reminds me of the album Firebirth by Swiss band Gotthard. That album too had a bird on the cover, and similar music. These guys have also in their very short career made a song for a movie, a song that you can hear on this album along with eleven other songs.

It is a classically styled hardrock album with catchy choruses classic riffs and melodies, a good production and a strong hardrock singer. Just about anything you can expect from an album in this genre, but unfortunately it is just that and no surprises, which is a bit of a shame. But the album is short and to the point so you don’t really care that much about that sort of thing, especially not if you are a fan of the genre.

I like this album, as it is a good album. As a critic I have to be more critical though and it is hard to overlook the fact that it is an album that offers no surprises and nothing in terms of fresh thinking. But as I have alluded to, this lack of new ideas is weighted by a quality album in other terms, with strong songs and great sound it is sure to make for a fun listen and it is easy to take to from the first time you hear it.

Game Zero offers a mature debut album where the opening track, also the movie track, The City With No End is the best track. The other tracks are also good but none of them rival the opener for the top spot amongst the tracks on this album. An album I wouldn’t describe as their rise to general awareness, but strong album nonetheless.
