Italian quartet Overtures seems to have dug out some artefacts from the musical sediments, the cool artwork could be one of those artefacts. It certainly looks exciting and dramatic this fourth effort by a band I probably should like as their album that was released some years ago is called Beyond the Waterfall, a band with waterfalls in their title can’t be bad, or can it? Well, the band that was started in 2003 are now releasing their fourth album and that along with at least the earlier two has been very well received by reviewers on the internet – something that should help them find some clever words to sell the album with.

It is heavy/power metal with progressive undertones, or overtures. Relatively complex, varied and well produced with skilled musicians playing some catchy choruses with complex additions to the songs. I think the vocalist is something of a weak point and he is not as good as the band as a whole but as the songs have much to them it is somewhat masked by the skill of his bandmates. The album itself isn’t the most original I have ever heard in my life, and it plays for nearly one hour through eleven tracks.

This is a strong album, it works really well and fans of the genre should check it out as chances are that they’ll like. Still, not as good as the ratings show on their website and I cannot guarantee that anyone will find it agreeable. It is a rather typical power progressive album, good songs and melodies but far less exciting than the cover artwork would suggest. I don’t really have that much more to say, pretty unexciting but still good – that is more or less how I would describe this album.

The songs are all pretty good, and I think none of them really falls out of the frame. Perhaps you could describe this as a bit of a cautious album that doesn’t really dare to move from the well-threaded paths, they cater to what people would expect from an Italian progressive power metal album. No surprises here really but if you like this kind of music you might find this agreeable as well, I personally think it is rather good but I think it will be fast forgotten.
