mighty music

From the Danish longitudes comes a quintet of musicians who seem to enjoy hiding beneath the waves, now they break the surface for their second offering – an offering that looks kind of dramatic. And judging by titles it is quite dramatic as well, so if you are looking for exciting there is a good bet that you’ll find some of it on this album. But sometimes looks can be deceiving so I have taken good time to dismantle their craft and then write down my opinions about it, and I can say that the looks aren’t really deceiving in this case.

They are somewhere in the firing line between the power metal and the progressive metal genres, with the direction more towards the power than the progressive. Strong melodies and choruses, the production signed Jacob Hansen bears his trademarks and the vocalist is very good. They have all that you can want from an album of this style and they keep it short which is even better – the eight tracks of the album plays for just 38 minutes to keep you from getting bored in case the variation wasn’t enough but I can assure you that they visit enough longitudes to be interesting for all of that time.

They are far too good to be torpedoed, I like what they do as they feel just fresh enough to stand out in this very crowded genre. I think the cover is a great indication, it sounds as it looks, great, exciting and really interesting with eight great tracks, no fillers are present and it is strong from the start until the end. I think the Danes torpedoes hits their mark really well and I have to recommend this album to anyone who reads what I have to say, especially those who enjoy power metal.

Meridian also goes on to prove that you don’t have to break much new ground or do anything extremely different to make your music stand out – all you have to do is have some personality and make high quality music. And with that pointed out there is not much more to add, other than that it is way too good to hide beneath the surface.
