Symphonic power metal is what it is; female fronted such power metal with bombastic sound. Excellent production and a decent variation over the seventy minutes the album lasts. I think the performances are overall solid even though I am not a huge fan of the female vocals; the harmonising male vocals that also are present on the album are more to my liking. You could say that this band shows quite a bit of maturity as well, it is really a quality production.
And it is a good album, they do many things right and very few things less right. I really like the big sound and arrangements; the dynamics of the songs are quite good as well. Fans of power metal should really like this album, especially those who like the symphonic version of that genre and even more especially if they like it with the Italian flair. The vocals is something of a letdown for them, she does not give the songs additional life - she does okay but with a stronger vocalist I am sure this would have been great. Still, the album is solid enough to like and I really like listening to it as well as the songs are good and catchy but maybe not catchy enough to really shine.
So if you are a fan of the Italian flair of symphonic power metal this is a no-brainer, you should get it. I like this kind of music but I am not overly impressed by it, it works but I have heard better stuff, I think it is more interesting creatively than the album is interesting in terms of quality. Hypersonic makes a solid album, if you like power metal it is certainly worth checking it out.
