Howling Giant presents Black Hole Space Wizard part 1, they do it with a rather interesting and exciting artwork. So, lets take a mothership ride and see what they are up to this time. Well, that involves and exodus from Earth, a black hole space wizard destroying everything and a lonely soul trying to survive on a ravaged earth. Exciting indeed.

Giant and fuzzy music, the name is kind of appropriate for what they do. And the trio don’t come out of a black hole, unless you count Nashville as such a thing. That wouldn’t be completely in error, would it? They strike with the force of a singularity, the problem is though that they don’t quite gravitate far enough as I think one would want more than just over 20 minutes of music and four tracks.

What strikes me is the retro sensation of this album but also how they are a bit over the top, and humorous. This is a rather enjoyable journey that in a short time spans from the pinnacle of mankind, through man leaving Earth and a black hole space wizard destroying things, to a lone survivor trapped on a ravaged Mother Earth.

With more parts to this story it is possible to put together something of a longer and possible better story, because this part feels a bit too short to really delve into. In its own right though it is quite interesting, warm and fuzzy, over the top and clever enough to work rather well. I also like how they keep the sound true to the cover so there is really an easy way to review this EP: if you like the cover you will like the EP.
