Southern rock or something like that is often used to describe these guys, and why not as it is just about how it sounds. I think classic rock/hard rock with some Hellsinglandish touches, familiar yet with a very fresh individual touch. Strong production and a varied album with a dozen songs, great vocals and I think that we can describe this album as a quality production. If we quickly compare it with the earlier album I think we can say that they are quite similar but it sounds a bit more royal and somewhat more Newtonian – it may carry a bit more gravity than the previous album. It is quite cool that it was recorded in a castle in Södermanland, I actually grew up in Södermanland in a town with a castle, although not the same as where they recorded this quality production.
Great album, and I am not just saying that because I understand gravity, as you don’t really need to do that in order to enjoy this gem from the uncivilised parts of our great nation. It does not only have a better cover artwork compared with earlier stuff, it also has better music. I think Hellsingland Underground (with that I mean Understanding Gravity) is a great and amusing album, they make music that feels familiar yet put their own touches on it, maybe Charlie Granberg can be described as a musical genius – kind of like Newton but in music, not really but that was the only parable I could think of right now. And now I completely ran out of things, my mind went blank so other than claiming that it is a recommended album I have nothing. Not even something about beavers in Ljusnan, which is a disappointment - probably for them as well as I know since last time that they actually collect radios someone throws at them.
Before I say something clever to end the review I thought it best to say one or two things about the songs, I like all twelve of them but the fourth one Dizzy Jonsson & The Rovers is the one I like the most. However, that isn’t the only brilliant song on this album that I categorise as one of the best this year. And with that said, it may not really be an album that helps you understand gravity but it might make you want to test gravity in some funny way, like the one on the cover. And with that I have in a fantastic and completely brilliant way explained why you should get this album, so hurry up and get it already!
