We are not really treated to anything classified in a music sense, classic heavy/power metal with no real surprises. Catchy choruses, the classic power chords, riffs, vocals, strong energy and production – all the things a fan of this type of music will enjoy. There are only five tracks and not a whole lot of variation so you shouldn’t expect to be playing it over and over again too many times, I also think that it feels a tad too short to really make an impact – an album would have been better in that regard.
I think that this is a good EP, it pushes the right buttons for the metal fan and those who like these guy’s earlier works will most likely find this very appealing. I like it, but I also think that it is more aimed at the band’s fans than on finding them new fans, kind of like a teaser for a coming album. But don’t think the five tracks is just a short blast of heavy metal tracks, some of them are really great and that makes this EP worth checking out, maybe even buying it if the price is right.
It is a good EP, well made and everything – fans of the band will really like it. And there are some tracks that are really strong, the first two tracks are quite memorable although nothing really original but well worth listening to. I especially like the second track called Heaven’s Falling, which is a great heavy metal track, heavy metal when it is at its best. Darker Half has made a strong EP, the fans will enjoy it but I think I’d rather wait for the next album.
