Sunflower Dead is an American band releasing their second album, one where they think that it is time to get weird. A notable thing is that Korn vocalist Jonathan Davis has lent his vocal skills to the band; he appears on the title track of the album. And with that information as well as the cover and some promotional photos of the band, it is pretty easy to guesstimate that they are making music that fits in the modern American styled hard rock music. It is said that they offer a healthy dose of rock energy combined with honest and heartfelt lyrics that has been missing in the modern rock radio – that may or may not be true but since I do not listen to rock radio I cannot really say. What I can do is compare them with what else is out there and that is what I have done.

Modern rock music, I think mentioned band Korn is a good frame of reference. It sounds a bit American, little bit groovy, quite heavy and music with good energy and varied tempo. For the genre a fairly typical singer and solid production and I think that you can describe this as a very solid production. Thirteen songs on the album, good variation and a decent playing time are other things worthy of mentioning. I doubt many fans will find it hard and boring to play through all songs on the album, I think they have done well on that front.

It is a very good album; the songs are strong all the way through. With good energy and a fresh modern sound it is easy to like what is playing through the speakers, it feels familiar but still fresh and interesting.  I think they hit the target very well with their new album and they are a lot more attractive musically than they are pictorially so I cannot really do much else other than recommend the album, especially if you prefer bands like Korn or their likes.

All the songs on the album are very good but I hold the single track Dance With Death and the title track as the real highlights of the album. These are tracks two and three on the album, after that we get some strong tracks but nothing as good as the mentioned pair. It is an exciting album well worth looking closer at, and by that I mean that you should look at the music rather than at the cover. Good stuff!
