Israel’s Red Rose are back with a new release, a release that is to commemorate their fifth year as a band. They have two albums in the baggage and now they have an EP out, it is cleverly named Anniversary and sports a fairly stylish cover with red roses and a dark background – it looks kind of interesting. Five years isn’t really that much to commemorate in my book, but why not? They could have released the EP anyway under a different name as the songs are new and made for this EP that also contains some video material on an extra disk but as we have not had access to this video material, that amongst others is a documentary, I cannot really write anything about it and just focus on the songs instead.

Musically it is similar to what they offered us on their latest album that I reviewed back in 2013 and that means that it is very melodic somewhere between melodic metal and melodic rock with some progressive touches and also some traces of AOR. All of this of course means that it is catchy and really well produced with clean sound and a very good singer. I think that musically it is a high quality product, with four tracks we aren’t offered too many minutes of music but there is both variation and depth in those four tracks so you can safely listen to them several times over if you want to. As I alluded to before it is stylistically fairly similar to the previous effort but it has more depth, maturity, energy, exciting angles, storytelling and such things, a step forward I think.

A great EP, it contains everything anyone can wish from an EP, four great songs and lots of interesting things to behold here. No particular weaknesses on this album, one can claim that five years isn’t really an anniversary that requires that much attention – but as I have alluded to before that isn’t really a problem. It may be a bit on the short side, but if you put it on repeat that isn’t much of a problem either – I really like this one and I think they have gotten even better since the album I liked two years ago, how is that for evolving? I think they have taken a significant step forward and I hope that a new album is imminent.

All four songs of this EP are good, solid and catchy tracks with great energy and emotion. There is however one track that stands out a little bit more, the third track Everything Can Change is really great and a little step above the rest of the tracks on this EP. An EP that I can recommend to anyone reading this webzine, it is well worth checking out and it won’t even require that much time. Still, with this EP in memory one can only hope that the new album is coming soon, very soon.
