Well, naming a band after the Swedish word for area or region is kind of strange considering that the band is not Swedish, to the best of what I can find out it is French. The band is a duo, who have some help from guests and they are releasing their debut album which they have given the name Edari. It has a cool cover art and according to the label it is avant-garde metal and an album that draws a new limit to the words vision and extremism, I guess the latter should be seen in a musical viewpoint rather than a religious one. That all sounds well and good, dreamers and visionaries build a better world and great music and if these guys are of that nature we should have something great in this album. The name may be nonsensical but that doesn’t mean that the music is.

Musically it spans over several different genres, styles. The label prints words like trip hop, ambient electronica, post rock and such things – it seems as though the album is built on a principle that they want to make each song different from the other meaning that the album at first glance can seem a bit incoherent and fragmented. Thing is though that when you are listening more closely it becomes apparent that they build the songs on the same soundscape meaning that they still fit very well together as a unit. Eight tracks all different meaning that the album is quite varied and it has a lot of depth, many things are there to be discovered for the one who is willing to venture into the songs of this album. With 46 minutes of music it isn’t that long either, quite a solid production I think.

The songs are very good, all eight of them. But the album requires a bit of time and attention but if you decide to give that album that amount of time and attention it will certainly be worth it – it is a fairly rewarding album and at least I like something that needs a bit of effort rather than your everyday album. It is always great with bands that go their own way rather than just emulate some favourite band of theirs. I think the idea to make each song fundamentally different is a rather clever one, not many bands do that, and even fewer bands manages to make it in such a way that it sounds coherent. I think they have pulled off something really good with this album, it is very enjoyable and I think they have made a great album here.

Picking out a favourite song is a quite difficult task considering that all the tracks are very good, sure the one called Friendly Herpes has a funny name. I enjoy funny names but the best track is probably the one called Satellite and Narrow, I like that one a lot. The first track is another one that stands out for me and then we have the penultimate track, Skam Parfyme that also is a very solid track that stands out for me. So, for me this album is well worth checking out, but you need to have an open mind to really appreciate it – very enjoyable and highly recommended.
