This is a tale of an abyssal throne, a chair down in the deep dark ocean where the throne sitter apparently haven’t fared too well if the cover is anything to go by. The album is said to be lyrically thematic using a theme from a novel that singer Jabo Garcia is currently working on. This is the debut of this Spanish quintet who were born from the remains of a band once known as Big Chocolate, so what about this tale then, is it any chocolaty or exciting?

Musically this band does not really break any new ground, one could think that something named Big Chocolate and doing death metal should be exciting and inventive. Maybe that’s why they changed name to something more death metallic, they aren’t vey inventive. The thematic ingredient isn’t exactly showing on the album, maybe due to the singer not being very articulate in his very guttural vocals that I think are fairly decent for the genre. The production is fairly average for the genre, and the album lacks a bit of variation and that can be something of a problem considering the fact that the album is very long.

I don’t think that this is a particularly good album, it lacks power, energy and depth and being a decade long it isn’t a particularly good show. Of course, this is their debut so they may find something of their own voice further down the line but this is what we have now and this just doesn’t show a band that has an interesting voice. This is just too ordinary and tired, and that leads my attention to venture elsewhere and forget about Nethertale and their debut album.

A rather forgetful effort at best, lacklustre, tired, dull, boring, are just a few of the words that can be used in order to describe this album. I think that they copy-paste too much and they haven’t listened even the slightest at their creative voices. I find this album a pointless release from a band sitting on a throne deep down in the abyss, which is where I think this album deserves to be as well. A shame, maybe they will do better next time.

HHHHHHH
