osmose productions
Their music is less extreme than you might think; they have room for melodies and the nuances of their music are possible to make out which is not always the case when it comes to this genre. The singer is quite clear even though he is of course grunting and gurgling away as they often do in this kind of genre. You may say that it is fairly typical Scandinavian black metal, especially of the Norwegian school but a little bit more polished and a bit more commercial than the average band of that genre. The album has seven tracks and plays for 40 minutes, 40 minutes without that much of variation but I think that it is a decent production that might actually appeal to more than the usual Osmose release.
It is a rather good album actually, sure the lyrics and all of that is utterly ridiculous and I can’t help but thinking that they need to grow up. Their music would be better had they been more adult and written music with lyrics that doesn’t make you roll your eyes in disbelief over their ridiculousness. Sure, I may not be impressed by the band’s lyrical capabilities or even their ability to craft unique songs or sounds but I do like the album. It is interesting in a way and the songs are quite easy to take in and relatively enjoyable to listen to as well, just as long as you don’t listen to the lyrics.
The songs are fairly good overall and I think that the first one is the best of the album and it sets a good tone that is then being kept throughout the album. I think that it is an album that might appeal to you even if you are not completely sold on this kind of music, I think that it is the best album released by Osmose that I have ever had the pleasure to review – of course they are usually not a pleasure to review so it is an exception. Does this mean that Osmose are going to also release some decent music? Anyway, Dødsfall and their fourth album is much better than you might expect just by looking at the cover and the song titles.
