Awakening is not the thing you experience when turning on this album; there are no awakening smatterings of drums or lightning fast guitar riffs. The tempo is quite low; the vocals are mixed low down in the mix and don’t take much place. It is like post-hardcore usually is, kind of simplistic, atmospheric and simple. The paint sonic landscapes with their slowish riffs and raspy, grunty vocals, and they also have common sense to keep it short enough not to become boring with a 36 minute playing time over six tracks.
I think that it is a pretty good album this one, the soundscapes are nice and it flows very well. I see a little problem in the lack of a distinct focal point, something that grabs hold of me as a listener and keeps my attention. Also, the vocals could be more exciting, I think they are just there and you don’t take any notice of them at all – I think this album could have worked just as well or even better without the vocals. Nevertheless, I think it is a fairly good debut and they do have some things that can evolve into something really interesting, fans of the genre will probably like it a lot.
I think Amouth makes a decent post hardcore album, and if you want to buy it I think the price is pretty fair as well. Why don’t you check out the band’s bandcamp site and maybe even get yourself the album from there and don’t just take my word for what it is. Good album, exciting album and all to a very fair price.
