French avantgardists of Ethersens released their second album about two moths ago, it follows just over five years from their debut album which is said to have been critically acclaimed. It looks a bit illusive when looking at the artwork, and it is a concept story of a relationship between two people that turns into a tragedy. It is an album that is supposed to be personal to singer Laurent Mora, that isn’t something you want to dislike. Then again I have to be honest when reviewing and see to what I really think, but from the outside it did look very exciting.

Musically it sounds quite post metal or avantgarde stuff, not quite up there as the most original I have heard of the genre but sure they might have something. They have a great vocalist but their music can be a bit hard to grasp. I think it requires time to get to know, it is a bit of an illusive album. I like the singer, he is emotional and strong. The production is a bit so-so, nothing that stands out in any regard I would say. However, the album is a bit on the long side with over 55 minutes of playing time and it just does not quite have the variation to keep an album interesting for so long.

This album has seen some good reviews and frankly I have no idea why. I can understand average but not really more than that considering that this album only raises questions and never answer any. It is not good questions it is more of questions of what they are seeing in this album, and why do they consider it good? Why can’t I remember anything of it even though I have been listening to it since december last year. What parameters do they use to define it as a good album. I am not saying it is bad but to me it offers nothing that I find interesting.

A decently made album but I don’t really think it takes me anywhere and I get nothing out of listening to it which is why these three months and sixty playthroughs will have to come to an end, I cannot really form an opinion of this album as there is nothing in it that grabs me, it just feels like it flows through and ends and nothing remains. I don’t want to call it a yawn but it is quite uninteresting to me. I am not saying that it will be that for everyone listening but to me it remains an uninteresting album. It is unfortunate.
