What kind of taste in music might one expect from a band called Taste, the cover art for their home studio recorded debut album seems to say some kind of melodic rock. Taste is a duo of swedish brothers who was starting the band in 2009 to have it as a side project but things evolved differently and here they are ready to release their debut album on well renowned label AOR Heaven. I must however say that their name isn’t the best considering that such names especially with a self titled album just vanishes amongst other things when making a web search for information, something that always leads to me getting annoyed and getting less done in terms of reviewing since the information gathering takes much more time. However, that is not why I am writing about this band, it is to review their debut album.

An album that conforms to the AOR genre with melodic rock music with very catchy melodies and choruses that is very keyboard oriented, I saw someone use KOR, for Keyboard Oriented Rock, as a label which would be a sub-genre to the AOR genre which might not be such a bad description. There are eleven songs that are not overly varied in style that will require 42 minutes of your time to play through and I think that they have found a very good sound for the songs. I would say that the album feels like a quality product and particularly considering that it is completely made by just two guys. I would however also add that it is all melodic and no power which might be something that some people will complain about.

All in all I would say that this is a good album, the eleven songs are good and the album as a whole is joyful to listen to. I do also think that it lacks a bit in power both the songs and the vocalist with the vocalist as the thing that would need the most added power and stature to really carry the songs. Many times it tends to feel a bit tame and almost like they lack in confidence which I doubt they do but this album would have needed just a small injection of power, especially on the vocalist side. To be honest though, that is not too much of a problem but it is the difference between being a good album and a great album and this ends up being a good album with some brilliant melodies.

So in the end we can conclude that this debut album by Taste is good, they do have good musical taste I suppose but all is not perfect and there are some small niggles to iron out and then they will have the potential to be really good. I will have to say that this album is a first contact with a band that I believe will achieve many great things in a not too distant future. One to check out for the AOR fanatic, and a name to remember for the rest of us.
