I think back to the eighties when hearing these guys, their music is straight-forward and raw rock music. No nonsense here. The production is quite modern, fresh but still with a touch of times passed long ago which I kind of like. It is really well made this album and a strong production, the singer is a bit average but kind of works anyway. The carnival is in ten parts which will take you near 44 minutes to play through so not too long a playing time which is a strong point. Another strong point is good variation, something that makes this album somewhat different but still not that much. It borrows their stylings and songs from the bands in the past and it shows as they offers nothing unique, nothing really new or exciting.
I think this is a rather good album, I like it quite well. Especially the opening track Into the Carnival and the penultimate one called One Way to Nirvana, those are both excellent tracks that will surely bring a smile to your face. Unfortunately the rest of the album sort of just passes by, the songs are rather good but nothing exciting or really interesting which in the end leads me to conclude that this is a good album but not better than it receiving a rating of four. I kind of like it but I have hard better in the genre and that is what eventually led me to this rating, I think that this guys will have a hard time standing out with this kind of music, they need to find a more own voice if they want to become really interesting.
They are on their way, but they have a long way left still. Nevertheless, if you are a fan of the glammier era hardrock music then I am sure that this will appeal to you and do so a lot. I believe that if you are a fan of the music the three similar bands perform, then I think you are going to like this, it is a solid and quite good album. Excellent in its best parts.
